Nufarm Crucial Glyphosate Herbicide 600 g/L CRUCIAL Nufarm

Description

Nufarm Crucial Herbicide contains 600 g/L Glyphosate as potassium, monomethylamine and ammonium salts, plus a built-in surfactant system (0.77 g/L Polyethanoxy (15) Tallow Amine). As a result, it delivers a Group 9, water-soluble, non-selective solution for controlling a wide range of annual and perennial weeds across fallow, conservation tillage, cropping, pasture, and pre-harvest situations. Furthermore, because Crucial is formulated as a soluble concentrate (SL), it requires no added adjuvant for most applications, streamlining spray preparation.

Notably, Nufarm’s Crucial carries the widest registered label use package of any Australian glyphosate formulation. Specifically, registrations cover pre-sowing, over-the-top (OTT) use in Roundup Ready, TruFlex, and Optimum GLY canola hybrids, Roundup Ready Flex cotton, optical spot spray technologies, and pre-harvest applications across wheat, barley, canola, cotton, sorghum, pulses, and hay/silage. Consequently, this triple-salt formulation delivers consistent performance across a broad range of weed species and use situations.

How Does Nufarm Crucial Glyphosate Herbicide Control Weeds?

Crucial inhibits the EPSP synthase enzyme (Mode of Action: Group 9), disrupting amino acid synthesis in actively growing plants. Once absorbed, it enters the plant through foliage and moves systemically to the roots, providing knockdown of annual weeds and seasonal suppression of perennials. As a result, effects may take 3 to 7 days (annual weeds) or 2 to 3 weeks (perennial weeds) to appear.

What Weeds Does Crucial Control?

Crucial controls an extensive weed spectrum. Key species include:

Weed Category Examples
Annual grasses Annual ryegrass, wild oats, barley grass, silver grass, winter grass
Annual broadleaves Wild radish, wild mustard, capeweed, Paterson’s curse, saffron thistle
Perennial weeds African lovegrass, couch grass, kikuyu
Hard to control Flaxleaf fleabane (with tank mix), sowthistle

What Are the Application Rates of Nufarm Crucial Glyphosate Herbicide?

  • Annual weeds: 0.6 to 1.8 L/ha
  • Perennial weeds: 1.8 to 3.6 L/ha
  • Hard to control perennials: up to 5.5 L/ha (maximum approved rate)
  • Aerial application: maximum 2.4 L/ha

Does Crucial Need a Surfactant?

No. Crucial contains a built-in triple-surfactant system, so an additional adjuvant is not required for most situations. However, refer to the label for specific tank mix partner requirements.

A comprehensive guide to glyphosate in Australian agriculture

I have always been a Round-Up Max user but I was looking for something a bit better and stronger as I felt the Round up was not performing like normal so after speaking with the team at Specialist Sales they advised me that Crucial was the better product so I got 20Lts and I have to say NO it is not a better product after 4 sprays over 4 weeks the weeds are still surviving with no signs of dying. I use 170mils to 25 Lts of water which is 20 mils more than the chart states the product does not work anything like Round Up Max, I do not recommend this product I would say stick with Round Up Max.

Hi Gavin, thank you for your review. After speaking with you and putting you in contact with the manufacturer, Nufarm, we have been advised by Nufarm that they believe there may be an issue with glyphosate resistance, and/or weed growing stress conditions, and/or water quality that has led to this less-than-desirable result. Thanks for taking the time to discuss this with us.
      Specialist Sales Team.

According to the product label for Nufarm Crucial Herbicide, it is generally considered rainfast after 1 hour of daylight when applied to actively growing seedling annual weeds under good conditions. Rainfall within that hour may reduce effectiveness, and this period can be longer if weeds are stressed or conditions are poor.

The mixing ratio for Crucial Glyphosate 600 Herbicide and Roundup Biactive Herbicide (Glyphosate 360) can vary based on the specific application and target weeds. However, for general weed control, Crucial Glyphosate 600 Herbicide has a general mixing rate of 6 mL per 1 litre of water. In comparison, Roundup Biactive Herbicide (Glyphosate 360) has a general mixing rate of 10 mL per litre of water. Please ensure you read the SDS and Label before purchase and use to confirm suitability for your situation.

Of the glyphosate herbicides currently available, Crucial Glyphosate 600 Herbicide has the highest load of active ingredients, making it a potent glyphosate herbicide. Adding surfactants to herbicides like glyphosate guarantees the best chance of a good result, particularly if the weeds being targeted are advanced in growth, considered harder to kill (i.e. glossy or hairy leaves) and if the spraying conditions are challenging (i.e. heat stress).

We recommend using a surfactant like Wetter 1000 with Crucial Glyphosate 600 Herbicide. Surfactants help herbicides spread and adhere to weeds more effectively, leading to better weed control. Wetter 1000 is a non-ionic surfactant, which means that it is compatible with most herbicides, including glyphosate. Crucial Glyphosate 600 Herbicide contains 25% more active ingredients than Glyphosate 450 formulations, hence the lower mixing rates. The main difference between the Crucial and other Glyphosate 450 formulations is the glyphosate salts the products are made from.  Crucial Glyphosate 600 Herbicide contains the active ingredients glyphosate as potassium, monomethylamine & ammonium salts, whereas Glyphosate 450 only contains the active ingredient of glyphosate present as the isopropylamine salt. These ingredients used in the Crucial Glyphosate 600 Herbicide make it a superior glyphosate to the 450 formulation.

  13. Q Can Crucial Glyphosate 600 Herbicide be used for desiccating canola and cereal oats?
Asked by Dave on October 30, 2022 8:52 am
    A

Crucial Glyphosate 600 Herbicide is registered for desiccation in certain crops, including Canola. Desiccation of Cereal Oats is not listed on the Crucial Glyphosate 600 Herbicides label and would need to be clarified by the manufacturer, Nufarm, on 1800 683 276. We strongly recommend reading the APVMA Label, 'Section 8. Pre and Post Harvest Uses, Pasture Topping', which you will find on the product screen under the 'SDS and Technical' tab.

Crucial Glyphosate 600 Herbicide does not provide an expiry or 'best before date'.  If possible, we recommend trying to use the product within a few years (3-5) from the date of manufacture, even though there is no period when the product starts to lose efficacy.

Tips For Use

Restraints:

  • Do not apply Crucial in or over water, or across open bodies of water.
  • Do not apply prior to transplanting tomato seedlings.
  • Do not use at rates above 1.8 L/ha in a tank mix for fallow/pre-sowing unless otherwise stated on the label.
  • Do not apply in wind conditions where off-target drift onto susceptible crops, pastures, or native vegetation cannot be avoided.

General Instructions:

  • Apply to actively growing weeds. Do not spray plants under stress from drought, waterlogging, frost, disease, or cold temperatures.
  • Allow 1 hour of daylight after application before rain for rainfastness (seedling annual weeds; check tank mix partner labels for other uses).
  • Sowing or cultivation may proceed from 1 hour of daylight after application for seedling annual weeds (non-tank mix use).
  • For perennial weed control, apply at the seedhead stage. Winter-growing perennials: treat in winter/spring. Summer-growing perennials: treat late summer/autumn.

Mixing Instructions:

  • Follow the correct mixing order specified on the label.
  • Maintain agitation during application.
  • Do not add oils to Crucial in a water mixture; this may reduce weed control and cause application difficulty.
  • For CDA equipment, determine dilution and travel speeds for individual sprayers to ensure correct label rates are applied.

Compatibility:

  • Compatible with a range of tank mix partners listed on the label, including Amicide Advance 700, Archer 750 Dual Salt Liquid Herbicide, Terrad’or 700WG, Nufarm Collide 700, and others.
  • Refer to the label for specific approved combinations and any additional surfactant requirements.

Protection of Crops, Native and Other Non-Target Plants:

  • Avoid contact with foliage, green stems, or fruit of desirable plants; severe injury or death may result.
  • Do not apply under weather conditions or with equipment settings that may cause drift onto susceptible crops, pastures, or vegetation.

Protection of Wildlife, Fish, Crustaceans and the Environment:

  • Do not contaminate dams, rivers, or streams with product or used containers.
  • Do not apply to weeds growing in or over water.

Storage:

  • Store in the closed, original container in a cool, well-ventilated area.
  • Do not store for prolonged periods in direct sunlight.

Safety Directions:

  • May irritate eyes and skin.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and skin.
  • When opening, preparing, and applying: wear cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist, a washable hat, and elbow-length chemical-resistant gloves.
  • Wash your hands after use. After each day of use, wash gloves and contaminated clothing.
  • Re-entry is not allowed until the product has dried, unless wearing full PPE as specified on the label.

First Aid:

  • If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or the Poisons Information Centre. Phone Australia 131 126.
